200:1
Peachtree Presbyterian Church’s vision is to send 200 of these young people to high school in Malawi. It costs only $120 a year for a student to attend high school. We can accomplish this with the same amount of money that we routinely spend to send 1 of our students to private school here in Atlanta.

Local church pastors in Malawi nominate youth leaders in their congregation to receive a sponsorship. Peachtree’s local ministry partner administers the program.

Education is crucial to alleviating poverty. By sponsoring 200 children, Peachtree has the opportunity to empower 1% of Malawi’s children orphaned by HIV/AIDS this year.

  • These children are either living with relatives or on their own in rural Chitipa, Malawi
  • They cannot afford to pay $120 fee to attend high school
  • Each sponsored child was chosen through a process that began with a nomination by their pastor for having great potential and active involvement in their local church
  • After being nominated by their pastor, Peachtree’s ministry partner (TDI, Tubepoka Development Initiative) reviews and confirms eligibility of the child for this sponsorship program
  • The gift of education especially critical for girls; if they can’t continue their education in school they typically have no option except an arranged marriage
  • Peachtree’s ministry partner in Malawi administers sponsorships, and all payments are made to our ministry partner who pays the schools directly
  • We do not anticipate being able to provide the opportunity for sponsors to communicate directly with their sponsored student
