Transition to Parenthood - October 1st and 8th
This class discusses the changes that are common during the transition to parenthood and gives the tools to use at home that will serve as a foundation for the challenges that parenthood brings. Couples will learn what to expect after having a baby, how to recognize the 10 reasons why the transition to parenthood can be difficult, 5 ways to build friendship, and the impact of relationship quality on parenting.
Managing Stress and Conflict Regulation - October 15th and 22nd
It’s not how often you fight with your partner that will determine the success of your relationship; it’s the way that you fight. The focus of this class teaches couples research-based tools for managing conflict and stress in order to maintain relationship satisfaction. Since conflict is unavoidable, it is important to realize that the effects of parental fighting have a strong (and mostly negative) impact on children. Couples will learn the four warning signs for stress, and why it is important to manage them, as well as steps to regulate conflict. Additionally, they will explore the impact on and learn four ways to help a child after a fight.
Making the Magic Last - October 29th and November 1st
Couples will learn the research-based tools for keeping a relationship happy and satisfied as they enter parenthood. They will learn the reasons why relationships often have difficulty (and how to avoid them), the characteristics of a healthy relationship, and the tools for keeping a relationship strong. This class teaches the skills necessary to focus on the couple’s relationship, which in turn can increase the parent / child bond and give a child the best possible start.
