CARRYING OUT OUR MISSION

My colleague, Mark Crumpler, startled me not long ago. Addressing the congregation at the close of the Sunday service he said, “Church begins at the benediction.” Church begins at the benediction? Crazy as that sounds, that is, essentially, the driving concept at Peachtree these days.
Studies show that we Christians spend, on average, only 5 percent of our waking hours in church and involved with church-related activities. The remaining 95 percent of our lives “begins at the benediction” and is spent at home, work, school and in the community. Some might argue that we need to increase the church’s slice of the pie to more than 5 percent. I disagree. In fact, the opposite is true.
This “95 percent” represents an amazing opportunity.…
